AFC Cup: Selangor crashed out in extra-time

PETALING JAYA: Toothless Selangor were knocked out of the AFC Cup round of 16 match after going down 2-0 to Maldivian side New Radiant SC at the National Stadium in Male.

Two extra time goals from midfielder Niyaz Ahmad (97th minute) and striker Ali Fasir (115th) handed the homesters the hard-earned victory.

The Red Giants were second best throughout the match while New Radiant were woefully wasteful in front of goal.

Selangor can thank goalkeeper Norazlan Razali, who was in top form, for taking the match into extra time.

While the Red Giants wilted in extra time, New Radiant found new wind to launch fast attacks, forcing the Selangor players to commit unnecessary fouls.

The hardworking Niyaz broke the deadlock with a clever flick-on from a freekick at the edge of Selangor’s penalty box. Ali then put the game beyond Selangor’s reach eight minutes later with an easy tap-in.
